Application number: EN - 954

Water absorption (conditioning) is what gives dry and brittle material, such as a polyamide workpiece, its desired positive properties. The workpiece is weighed in the dry state and then again after it has been moistened in the system. The weight difference can be determined with a precision scale and thus shows the exact amount of water absorption

Additional information

Conditioning means adapting materials to the required conditions before further processing. This process, particularly in the case of technical polyamides, is important. The dry and brittle material only acquires its desired positive properties when it absorbs water. While the impact strength and stiffness decrease under the influence of moisture, the elongation at break increases. The required moisture absorption is always given in % on the component drawings. The workpiece made of polyamide is weighed in a dry state and then again after it has been moistened in the system. The difference can be measured exactly with a precision scale and given in %.
