Digital printing is becoming increasingly important for book production. A distinction is made between roll and sheet systems and printing processes with dry toner, liquid toner and inkjet. Digital printing is particularly economically advantageous for small print runs. Photo book providers, for example, rely exclusively on this method. Digital printing is also frequently used in the self-publishing sector, as the books are usually printed in very small quantities and/or to order. Publishers use digital printing primarily for scientific publications and niche topics in order to reduce storage costs and enable quick updates.
