Lime works extract, burn, and process limestone into lime products for construction, the steel industry, environmental technology, water treatment, and numerous industrial applications. The sector is characterized by its central role in various basic materials and infrastructure markets, but is simultaneously under considerable pressure due to energy intensity, CO2 emissions, and increasing regulatory requirements. Decarbonization pathways with more efficient kiln technologies, alternative energy sources, and CCS and CCU approaches are currently of particular relevance. At the same time, standards, documentation, and integration into more sustainable value chains are gaining in importance. As a result, the sector remains crucial for basic industrial supply, climate-related transformation, and resilient material-based process chains.
