Indoor farming encompasses the controlled cultivation of plants in closed or largely controlled environments, such as vertical farms, greenhouse systems, or modular production facilities. This segment is gaining importance because it combines weather-independent production, high land efficiency, and reduced water consumption with year-round availability. At the same time, energy requirements, economic viability, and technical scalability remain key challenges. Automation, data-driven control, precise climate management, and locally based production models are therefore becoming increasingly important. This segment remains relevant because it offers a flexible and resource-efficient complement to traditional agriculture and can strengthen supply security and quality consistency, particularly for fresh, sensitive crops.
