Trout farms

Trout farming in Germany focuses on the rearing of trout species such as rainbow trout in pond farms and aquaculture facilities. Currently, over 1,000 farms produce approximately 12,000 tons of edible trout and char annually, with Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg together accounting for over 50% of the total. Challenges facing the industry include climate change, which leads to higher water temperatures and water scarcity, as well as fish diseases and price pressure from imports. Current trends include the development of sustainable aquaculture methods and the adaptation to ecological standards to improve the quality and environmental compatibility of trout farming.
