Application number: EN - 926

With an optimal food supply, optimal growth behavior takes place in bacteria (Escherichia coli). This means that every 20 minutes the bacteria undergo a dichotomy. This proliferation of bacteria can be observed very closely under the microscope. In order to be able to make molecular-biological statements, bacterial colonies that can be seen individually under the microscope are required.

Additional information

In the laboratory, the growth of bacteria, for example Escherichia coli, can be examined very precisely by measuring the optical density. The growth of the bacteria is limited by the limitation of food and this is clearly visible in the stationary phase. With an optimal food supply, optimal growth behavior takes place. For E. coli, this means going through a bifurcation every 20 minutes. This proliferation of bacteria can be observed very closely under the microscope. In order to be able to make molecular-biological statements, bacterial colonies that can be seen individually under the microscope are required.
