Plastics to which additional fillers, pigments or additives (stabilizers) have been added are called compounds. The aim of compounding is to modify the properties of the plastics for a specific purpose. The aims of compounding can be: increasing tensile strength, flame retardancy, greater weather resistance or extreme hardness. The newly developed compound is melted and pressed in the laboratory. Then certain parameters such as hardness are tested. A Shore hardness tester is used for this. This check guarantees that the desired property (hardness) was achieved during the development of this compound.
