Lime works
Moisture analyser
Application number: EN - 2008
When producing sand-lime bricks, the moisture content of the lime-sand mixture should be 6%-8% so that the firing process can run smoothly. Control with a moisture meter is essential to avoid rejects and to ensure the building quality of the bricks.

Additional information
Sand-lime brick is used in the shell of interior and exterior walls. It is heavy and therefore has good sound insulation and heat retention. Sand-lime bricks are artificial wall bricks made from quicklime (calcium oxide), quartz sand and water. Lime and sand are mixed in a ratio of 1:12 with the addition of water and fed into the reaction container. The quicklime is converted into hydrated lime and the mixture is brought to pressing moisture. This pressing moisture should be 6%-8% so that the firing process can proceed continuously. Moisture in sand-lime bricks can affect the quality of construction. High moisture levels can lead to problems such as mold growth, efflorescence and deterioration of thermal insulation. Checking with a moisture analyzer is therefore essential to avoid rejects.
