In order to check a certain oiliness of a stainless steel surface according to customer specifications, a sample of 30x30 cm is weighed, then tiny glass beads are placed on the stainless steel plate and it is checked how many gas beads have stuck to the surface, i.e. by how much the weight of the plate increases has. The difference in weight says something about the oiliness of the stainless steel surface. A precision scale is used to check these small weight differences.
